Crank is a new project by Nifelheims founding member Tyrant. For Mean Filth Riders, Crank’s first mini-album, he put his bass aside and instead sings and plays guitar on the six tracks Rebels Of The Night, In The Wind, Thunder Road, Shooter, Mean Filth Riders and Hot Rock n Roll Band (the latter is a cover of a song by the obscure Finnish hard rock band Backsliders from the mid-80s). I wrote songs I like myself and recorded them with people I like playing with, comments Tyrant. Crank is about doing exactly what we want, when we want, and how we want. We’re not a band for everyone, and we’re not meant to be. The uncompromising Nifelheim founder recorded the material with the help of some of his friends, namely Savage on guitar, Motokobra on bass, and a certain J. Rocker on drums. It won’t be the least bit surprising that, according to Tyrant, Crank’s manifesto reads as follows: We play the hardest rock n roll that will take over your soul. The dirty biker image isn’t just for show. Crank will rule the world, strike fear into your souls, and the sound of their music will shake the heavens. So if you know what’s good for you, stay out of Crank’s way, or you’re done for. Musically, Crank, of course, has nothing to do with Niefelheim’s black metal roots. Mean Filth Riders mixes dirty biker rock with traditional heavy metal and presents it with a no-bullshit attitude. This is highly authentic. There’s absolutely nothing rehearsed, prepared, or polished here. Imagine a red-hot mix of NWOBHM greats like Tank, Mad Dog, and Saxon with proto-punk/metal crossover pioneers The Blood, coupled with the raw minimalism of the Motörhead era of Larry Wallis, and you’ll have a rough idea of ​​what Crank is all about. Crank are incredibly refreshing in a world where even many of the heaviest bands sit and polish every single note in the studio. So don’t forget to crank it up!
