Description

Debut album from the UK’s Craven Idol. Eight new offerings of ripping death black metal, channeled with a vitriol akin to Nifelheim and Absu, with further allegiances to the dark arts of Inquisition and Samael. Musically the release is an assault on those who neglect the potent legacy of the 1980s, while thematically it attacks all proponents of unfounded spiritual dogma. Craven Idol seriously dish up the goods in term of intensity and aggression. What’s more, is the band have a deft, dynamic approach adding peaks and valleys to their apocalyptic sound furthering the quality across Toward Eschaton. Of course for the most part this is brazen and in your face, with riffs being fired out all over the place. The drums take a pugilistic approach, hammering home each of the tracks across the album’s relatively short thirty three minute run-time. Vocals are delivered courtesy of the Immolator of Sadistik Wrath, and I’d say his moniker comes off fitting. Raw and raspy is the name of the game, and whilst unspectacular for the genre and style, it is without a doubt ideal for the music and furthers the band’s violent approach. This should be a no-brainer for fans of acts such as Razor Of Occam, Aura Noir, Desaster and even Immortal.
