David Cassidy was a teenage heart-throb, playing Keith Partridge and the lead singer of TV’s Partridge Family in the 70s. The role carried over into his real life, where he was regarded in a similar manner by an enthusiastic teen audience. He suddenly found himself making hit singles of his own and garnering Grammy nominations for his efforts; his fan club even became the largest in the history of the music industry. The massive global merchandising helped him sell millions of records, but by the mid-’70s he was practically driven from the spotlight by a teen market hungry for new talent. He survived as an actor when nostalgia and VH1 helped him gain a bigger public spotlight than he had seen in years. In 1990, David returned to US and released his self titled “David Cassidy” album. The album charted on Billboard 200, and peaked at #136 in 1990. The single from this album, “Lyin’ To Myself” also reached Billboard Hot 100 at #27, a triumphant return to the US singles chart after 14 years. This album is a hidden gem very edgy, heartfelt and rockin. Most of the songs are co written by David and his wife, singer/songwriter Sue Shrifrin. David also does a great arrangement of the blues classic, “High Heel Sneakers” as well, with a little sampling of “I Think I Love You” in there. His singing has improved from being Keith Partridge to his own later on in his solo career. This album is also a demonstration of persistence and perseverance, which paid off with a charted album. This album should be treasured by all Cassidy fans.
