Old school thrash metal act Deceased from Arlington, Virginia, Usa have been around for a long time still never reaching the recognition they deserved. Behind The Mourners Veil is another chapter in the thrashaholic book whose first chapters go back to the year 1985. A solid EP that gives us three new tracks and some cover tunes by Anthrax, D.R.I, Warfare and Tankard. Also included is a video for the song Ellys Dementia from their classic Supernatural Addiction released in 2000. One thing I really love about this release is the sincerity this band has for its love for metal. Their live shows are proof enough, but they actually give explanations on why they covered certain songs and what it means to them. The new tunes also have brief summaries about them, I really like this idea and wish more bands would put in their own words WHY they felt a need to cover a track or write a song about something. As far as the music is concerned, there are no surprises when it comes to Deceased. They have a formula for thrashing us to death, and they dont break it. To be honest, Im really glad they stick to that formula because it works. Kings got a tad to much reverb on the vocals for my taste, but over all the recording is passable. Their cover version of Reaganomics and New Age of Total Warfare are killer versions. The three new songs, Its Alive, The Mausoleum and Victims of the Masterplan are all very good thrashers. Victims of the Masterplan is ten minutes in length and is made of 5 parts (no pause in between parts). If you like heavy/thrash/speed metal deeply rooted in the 80s sound, Deceased do a very good job of mixing those genres, so chances are youll find something you like here. Highly recommended.
