This is a superb collection of live, studio work and videos and a must for anyone who likes rock music. Actually music full stop. Because this is a band of probably the best musicians you will ever hear. The riffs and amazing guitar work by The man in black Ritchie Blackmore backed up by Jon Lord’s superb keyboard work with Ian Paice’s phenomenal drum work all kept tight with Roger Glover on Bass. Great to see Ian Gillan when he could hit all the right notes. Steve Morse is a different player than Ritchie but he certainly does a very good job and it’s good to see the band and how he influenced the music with his style of playing. There are also a couple of videos from the Slaves And Masters album and shows Joe Lyn Turners contribution to the band. So what you get here is simply an amazing collection of excellent music from concerts all over the world as well as some videos from the time. Here you have the cheesy Knocking At Your Back Door and Bad Attitude to smokin live footage of Black Night (84) and Space truckin (85). While the dvd is mainly split evenly between the Blackmore years and Morse years, both are equally outstanding. Overall, New, Live And Rare does a good job of capturing the evolution of Deep Purple right up until the Montreux Jazz festival 2000 so another fine dvd and a must have for fans of Deep Purple.
