The 1970’s were truly a successful era for hard rock legends Deep Purple. This Mark III band superstar act now featured the much revered line up of the original guitar hero Ritchie Blackmore, keyboard great Jon Lord, power drummer Ian Paice, and new cohorts — the superlative Glenn Hughes on bass and superstar vocalist David Coverdale. In support of their then huge current albums Burn and Stormbringer, Deep Purple took to the road for many sell out shows of the next several years and recorded what would become the final album of their long platinum plus run with Warner Bros. Records, the amazing Made In Europe. This live recording, made in 1975, comes from Ritchie Blackmore's last three concerts with the band before leaving to form Rainbow. It features Deep Purple Mark III, with David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass and vocals. Coverdale is a convincing hard rock singer, though he lacks the winning quirkiness of Ian Gillan, while Hughes is a busier and more up-front player than Roger Glover. While "Burn" and "Mistreated" are worthy successors to previous Deep Purple tunes, the remaining material is weaker, and overall, this stuff is definitely a couple of notches below the glory days of Made in Japan. But Blackmore, for his swan song, still manages to inject a good deal of excitement, and his invention and fire raise the proceedings up somewhat. Made In Europe features edited recordings from three concerts, mostly Saarbrucken, with additions from Paris and Graz, March/April 1975, done with Rolling Stones Mobile. Reached the charts at position 12 in the UK and 148 in the US Track listing: 1. Burn 2. Mistreated 3. Lady Double Dealer 4. You Fool No One 5. Stormbringer
