Diabolic is a group of veteran musicians getting together amidst death metal’s mid-90s nadir to refine and simplify the Floridian subgenre into something ridiculously intense yet readily comprehensible. Stylistic innovation clearly isn’t in their charter, but since they’re honest about this and don’t openly rip anyone off, simply retreating the steps of past trailblazers at a faster cadence is forgivable. Any number of foundational U.S. death metal acts, from Immolation to Malevolent Creation, could serve as crude reference; the best offhand description I can think of would be a minimalist Eulogy, with less of a penchant for harmonising or metrical/mood shifts. This demo was released on a mini cd in 1999 with two rehearsal tracks as bonus. The band went on to release more albums but they never managed to top these three first demo songs.
