The German band Die Apokalyptischen Reiter has always been difficult to characterize because in every song they have a different playing style of music. Stoner Rock, Death Metal, Punk, groovy rhythms, Folklore elements and harmonic melodies always combined with the power of Heavy Metal. The band has a huge an loyal following in Germany but for their fifth studio album, Samuraii, the label wanted to try to sell this product to Usa. So Nuclear Blast in Usa released a special version of Samurai with a slightly different track list and they also decided to translate the bands name to The Apocalyptic Riders. Samurai was recorded at Antfarm Studios in Denmark throughout July and August of 2004 and its just as mixed as earlier albums. It has the rock groovyness of Cathedral as well as German folkrore band In Extremo, together with Punk and Death Metal. So one thing is for sure with Die Apokaluptischen Reiter and that is that you can expect the unexpected. Because no matter if you like it or not you will never get bored, because of the variety of all the different sounds on it. So the band is trying to be wildly creative and maybe you’ll like this or maybe you just come across very confused and delusional. In any point its still interesting to try this band out.
