Maurice Jarre is the conductor-composer of the music for this movie and for Lawrence of Arabia and others. He was a highly awarded movie score writer. His music is beautiful and makes you feel all of the mixed emotions of the era. Dr. Zhivago takes place during the Bolshevik/Communist revolution in the early 1900’s Russia resulting in the USSR, or Soviet Union. Dr. Zhivago is a warm, passionate, and kind physician that marries a wealthy bride, Tonya. She is swept off to France for safety by her family and, after missing the train, the Dr. is left alone in Russia. He sees the pain of war and the beauty of another love, Lara. He writes poetry and thence comes Lara’s Theme a most beautiful love song. Without necessarily watching the movie, the music is lovely, catching the culture and change, loves and hates, happiness and woes, of a great and diverse people; all occurring simultaneously during a very epic time in history. A great cultural and musical experience.
