Enslaved was formed in July 1991 by Ivar Bjornson and Grutle Kjellson (also known as Kjetil Grutle) when they were 13 and 17 years old, respectively. The band name was inspired by an Immortal demo track, Enslaved In Rot. Though Enslaved began as a prototypical Norwegian black metal band in 1991, by 1993 they were incorporating song structures unusual for the genre; several of their earlier songs reach the ten-minute mark (their debut album, Vikingligr Veldi , has only one song that is under ten minutes). As such, the band has rejected the black metal label and prefers the term extreme metal. After the release of their 1994 album Frost the band got a change to go to North America for the first time. This means that Enslaved was the first Norwegian extreme metal act to hit the US shores and among the first ever Norwegian metal bands to tour Usa, only TNT and Stage Dolls and done this before. The Wetlands US Tour 1995 was a four band tour where Enslaved toured together with Absu, Incantation and Kataklysm. This album features a very rare recording that hasnt been released or circulated among collectors and traders before. Its from the second night of the tour which took place at the Red Eye Rock Club in Cleveland on the 22nd of July 1995. The Red Eye Club with its bowling allley are now long gone but this night it turned into a black metal frenzy. During this tour the band opened up with the track Viking Metal, after the Frost intro. This was a track that never got released or played again after this tour. This is of course a must for fans of Enslaved
