Description

2023 reissue on splatter vinyl

At the start of their career, Chicago’s Enuff Z’ uff were touted as the rightful heirs to Cheap Trick thanks to their uncanny talent for combining alluring pop melodies with controlled hard rock crunch. Like their late-70s heroes, Enuff Z Nuff took most of their inspiration from a single influence: The Beatles. On their seventh studio album, Seven, the bands ever influences from The Beatles and Cheap Trick can still be heard through their power pop, glam, and metal tracks. The main songwriters Donnie Vie and Chip Z’nuff are though downshifting into a more mellow, acoustic sound that focused more on songs than theatrics and as a result the album has remained one of the strongest in the EZ catalog. Wheels starts off the album on an utterly predictable but still flat-out great note — Strawberry Fields Forever keyboards, Penny Lane trumpet, harmonies, solos, a lyrical picture of being just on the edge and more, and there’s not one thing wrong with any of it. From there the foursome, with Vie and Z’Nuff handling production and doing a great job of it, make their fine, hummable way through a dozen tracks. Seven is a really laid back affair with some tracks that are nothing short of astounding from the powerfully emotional We Don’t Have To Be Friends to the retro groove of New Kind Of Motion. A cracking blend of modern rock and 60’s vibes Enuff Z’Nuff make a proud addition to any music lovers record collection.
