Still sealed double album
The history of US act Essex starts with Stryder, a female fronted melodic hard rock / AOR act from Utah. Laurie Welker’s strong distinctive vocals, killer harmonies, top notch dual guitar work with blazing solos from Gilbert Rodriguez (who later formed Bad Boys) helped the band getting some studio time and they did a private pressed vinyl called Nothing At All in 1984. Then the band changed its name to Essexx and the musical delivery was even more commercial and catchy. They released an 8-track cassette called We Make It Rock in 1985 and got none other then Ronnie Montrose to produce their recording. The colorful lead vocals of Laurie Welker and music that has lots of hooks, catchy refrains and very good musicianship should have been enough for the band to get a deal with a major label. That never happened and when Laurie left the band morphed into Bad Boys. This double cd features the Essexx material, The Stryder album and lots of previously unreleased bonus tracks. This is mid-80s US stuff that finally sees the light of day. These tapes has now been finely produced and remastered and we now gets some clarity to these dusted tapes.
