Evoke Thy Lords from Novosibirsk in Russia was formed in 2002 and they released their debut, Escape To The Dreamlands, in 2008. The band then seems to have had less activity for a couple of years before returning in 2013 with the follow up, Drunken Tales. With this album the band seems to have changed their sound dramatically. Its a stoner doom act but they offers so much more. You could call it progressive, psychedelia, space rock or even folk rock and nothing would totally wrong. One listener said that this “Sounds like Jex Thoth, Chris Barnes and Ian Anderson collaborated to make the weirdest album any of the three could come up with” and thats not really a bad description. The reason is simple, the band ad so many interesting things that you dont normally hear in a stoner album. For instance, they have some mixture of sludge and doom metal type of vocals and then you have that killer hypnotic flute playing.
