Falconer is one of those bands where if one album agrees with a person, pretty much the whole discography will. From A Dying Ember is a record that maintains this band’s consistent greatness for those that have followed them over the past 19 years, while also blazes a modernized, punchy production trail for newcomers that might find their earlier offerings a tad low-fi by comparison. They has continued to be a wild card in the power metal scene, despite changing their format very little over the past two decades. But for what this approach may now lack in novelty, it also showcases a band undaunted by the changing musical landscape of the day with a highly potent delivery that shows zero signs of wavering. Come for your metal fix, where ingredients are a mixture of a forbidding metallic battery with a 100% saccharine sweet vocal delivery. This album has been years of work. Some of the earlier material was scrapped and re-written halfway into the process; additionally, Stefan re-wrote one song with his old Mithotyn bandmate, Karl Beckmann (guitars/keyboards). The echoes from Mithotyn are surely noticeable on the track Rapture. Stefan comments: Finally, we got the chance to incorporate some keyed fiddle and bagpipe into the music – something that has always been a wish from us, just to get that extra medieval and folky feel to it. In that time, we also wrote the most intense ballad ever, which turned out to be ‘Rejoice The Adorned’ – only featuring piano, keys and strings. Stefan concludes: To sum the album up, we can say that From A Dying Ember has some things that really stand out from a usual Falconer album. A lot of things happening and more elements to the music than ever before. From A Dying Ember is said to be Falconer’s swan song and for fans of the band it wont dissapoint
