Fin turned out to be a rather short-lived band, but in their seven years of being together, they really became known for a high quality standard of fast-paced semi-melodic riffy black metal backed by an absolute madman behind the kit (D.F.K., playing on all releases but the first demo). Fin was formed in 2011, and one demo and three albums later the band called it quits, but they will surely be remembered fondly, and Arrows Of A Dying Age (2017) is a good reason why. This album is 48 minutes of absolute strength. It doesn’t slow down at any point and just pummels the listener down with endless riffs. The heaviness of the material does drop at times, as the album isn’t just all blastbeats, and at these points the riffing feels almost trad-esque. The material is somewhat one dimensional, but since the band’s energy is nigh unparalleled it doesn’t really become an issue. There’s a load of reverb to the overall sound of the album, but I find it fits well to the sort of chaotic energy the band has. Arrows Of A Dying Age is an essential listening for fans of modern black metal who aren’t afraid of a little melody among the innumerable riffs.
