Finders Keepers were one of the best known of the local groups around the Wolverhampton area during the 1960s. They came very close to having a hit record. The band came to life in 1965. Lead singer Roy Dripper Kent and bass player Jake Elcock sang harmonies together that created a sound much like The Hollies. After their debut single, Light, bass player Jake Elcock got an offer he couldn’t refuse to join local rivals The Montanas. More line-up problems when egos started to collide and soon even lead vocalist Dripper left. Two new members were brought in before the recording of their second single, Friday Kind Of Monday. The two were Mel Galley and Glenn Hughes. The single had good reviews in 1968 but failed to chart Their third and final single, Sadie The Cleaning Lady, featured Dave Holland, and it was a novelty song which had a lot of media coverage in the Birmingham area but did not sell nationally. However, the song was an enormous hit in Australia for Melbourne recording star Johnny Farnham. The band fell apart as three of the members Galley, Hughes and Holland formed the highly acclaimed Wolverhampton supergroup Trapeze with members from The Montanas. Glenn Hughes went on to fame and fortune with Deep Purple, Mel Galley with Whitesnake and Dave Holland with Judas Priest.
