Funeral Doom is a tough genre. It’s not for everyone and even if you admit to being a fan, you really need to be in a certain mood to really enjoy it. It’s not party music and it’s not music to cheer you up either. So, lights off and cover the windows with pitch-black curtains; here comes Funeral Tears, a Funeral Doom outfit run by Nikolay Seredov. Nikolay has already tried his hand at other genres of metal music; thrash metal, depressive black metal, heavy metal and even atmospheric gothic/doom metal so the question is how does he handle Funeral Doom? The short answer is he does it well, really well to be honest. The World We Lost is Nikolay’s second album with Funeral Tears and drags its listeners deep into a dreamy, hopeless, atmospheric and depressive world and really captures the true essence of what Funeral Doom Metal should be all about. Dead-calm seas of dying heartbeats, negatively charged airy and atmospheric passages and beautiful, ultra-slow tempos abound. Nikolay has got it all on this record though if it offers an overwhelming impact is up to you, dear listener. The World We Lost is a well-crafted Funeral Doom album and it worked for me as I bet it will for many of you.
