Description
2011 re-release of this classic grindcore EP by Swedish band General Surgery. Three bonus tracks has been added to this re-release expanding it from 15 minutes to 21 minutes. The remastering has no great effect as it still sounds like what it is: a basement recording by a band possessed of more enthusiasm than instrumental skill. The introductory instrumental, the 3:12 "Ominous Lamentation," is very nearly the longest track on the disc (only "Crimson Concerto," at an epic 3:30, is longer); most other tracks come in between 30 seconds (the grindcore-ish "An Orgy of Flying Limbs and Gore"), and two-and-a-half minutes, propelled by blastbeats and roaring, distorted guitars. The vocals are a mixture of inhuman roars and growls with occasional high-low dichotomies in the manner of early Carcass; a guttural rumble is balanced by a high-pitched screech. This is extremely underground music with little or nothing to offer anyone seeking melody, catchiness, or good cheer. But for those who want to bang their heads and drag their knuckles across the mosh pit floor, Necrology is a beer-sodden, sweaty thrill. Limited 10’ vinyl Track listing: 1. Ominous Lamentation 2.
