Original Decca US press 1970
Soundtrack to the 1969 movie Anne Of The Thousand Days with Richard Burton and Genevieve Bujod. The music to the picture was composed by the French film composer Georges Delerue. Delerue contributed the scores to over 150 motion pictures. This soundtrack is a marvellous listen however its only first half of the soundtrack, about 19 minutes, that is Delerue’s score the rest is made up by period music not used in the film that were performed by The New York Pro Musica, which at the time recorded exclusively for Decca Records. The music they play here are pieces taken from prior album releases by the group, some from a 1962 album (Instrumental Music from the Courts of Queen Elizabeth and King James – Decca DL 79415) and others from a 1968 album (The Kynge’s Musicke – Decca DL 79434). To the best of my knowledge, the selections did not appear in the film. The score by Delerue however gave him his very first Academy Award Nomination for Best Original Score but he lost to….Burt Bacharach.
