Although the festival started out as a scene for the alternative kids it essentially became a beacon for all things pop culture. Its not in anyway a metal or hardrock festival but its a genre that never was absent from any of the versions of the Lollapalooza. In 2016 it was Ghost that needed to stand up for the genre and it the show was special, because they had to play outdoor and in front of an audience that didn’t know them at all. This made Papa Emeritus III tasks a little more difficult. Under the intro of the music from Eyes Wide Shut, the anonymous and self-described Nameless Ghouls entered the stage with their characteristic costumes that simulate religious cassocks, along with the vocalist Papa Emeritus III, to a background screen which was lit with colorful satanic stained glass windows and the show begins with the chords of From The Pinnacle To The Pit, making the fatigue of the almost two uninterrupted days of music be left behind and the crowd flooded under the stage. In a cloud of smoke and with the cold wind that began to increase, the black metal of the Swedes did not stop sounding or igniting the atmosphere, being Year Zero one of the songs most chanted by the public. Suddenly a mosh formed in the central part of the audience, with several nods to the sound of the band, witnessing some children who were raised by their parents. After playing Mummy Dust, Emeritus III began the classic preaching, evoking the satanic ritual that they have been practicing for years and that characterizes their live performances. After the sermon came the goodbye with the last song that was in charge of Montrance Clock, which got all the applause and ovations that a show of this category deserves. It is not easy to be the representatives of metal in a festival that was characterized by being more pop, electronic and diverse veins of rock, but never as extreme as them.
