In the Autumn of 2024 Ghost announced their 2025 World Skeletour. It was the bands biggest tour to date with 55 dates through UK, Mexico, Europe and Usa. It was one of rock music’s most spectacular live productions in what amounts to the band’s most ambitious run of their career. Their was only two dates in Sweden and Tobias Forge left out the two main cities Stockholm and Gothenburg and instead decided to play Sandviken and Forge’s hometown of Linköping. Ofcourse the hype for the two Sweden gigs was enormous, on social media as well as in the national media. In Linköping the band sold out the 7500 seat venue of Saab Arena. Tobias Forge as his latest pope persona Papa V Perpetua danced into the arena wish luch arm gestures for the opening track, Peacefields, and the venue exploded. With a steady hand, the frontman and his seven nameless ghosts then lead the audience through a gig where Ghost surpasses themselves on every level. The stage production, styling (Forge probably breaks records for the number of cool outfits), pyrotechnics and delivery are among the strongest of their career and pave the way for a buffet of hair-raising highlights. No matter what Forge and his 7 nameless ghouls throw at the enthusiastic audience everyone seems stunned and into the show. Before the first encore, Forge cannot resist the temptation to drop all facades and address the Linköping audience in Swedish. He tells, noticeably taken by the situation, about how a long time ago he skated in the ice rink next door and daydreamed about playing in the arena. Later that summe Forge would stand on the main stage at Madison Square Garden, an achievement that few Swedish musicians can boast of. But the question is whether tonight’s gig on home soil is not a bigger milestone. At least rite here, rite now.
