Blues based Hard Rock outfit Great White was formed in Huntington Beach, California during 1982 from the ashes of Los Angeles club band Dante Fox. Fighting their way through the plethora of hair bands all trying to make their mark, Great White cleverly stuck to their roots tradition of seventies based classic hard rock, a commitment which would pay significant dividends in the form of major radio hits and platinum albums. After recording several demos, they took on Alan Niven as manager, Niven having worked for independent distributor Greenworld (which dealt with Motley Crue’s debut self-release) in Torrance, California. The band recorded their debut. A 5 track self financed mini album released by Aegan records in 1983 and distributed by Greenworld. Their independently released EP ‘Out Of The Night’ sold 20,000 copies and got local airplay. Great White was snapped up by EMI America, which issued the eponymous Great White in 1984. Three of the tracks from the first independent release made it into the bands official debut the year after. Although reviews were complimentary the album failed to sell in sufficient quantities and Great White were made near destitute. EMI soon lost interest and dropped the band and by the end of 1984. The album has also been released under the name Stick It
