If youre only ever going to read one book about Guns n Roses than this is it. This amazing book features documents from the very beginning up to the creation of their seminal groundbreaking album Appetite for Destruction. Whats so special with this one is that its actually done by someone who knew the band .Marc Canter where childhood friend with Slash since the 5th grade in 1976. Marc and Slash joked around back in 1981 that it would be nice to document everything right now. A TDK tape didnt cost much and Marc were interested in taking photos. When Slash started out in his first band Tidus Sloan in 1981 Marc started to audio and video tape the shows, take photos collect all memorabilia and everything else from every performance that Guns N Roses did from their very first gig until the recording of Appetite For Destruction. Slash could never have dreamt of that his 1981 dreams would turn into reality and Marc probably never thought that his small document joke about his friends highschool act turned into a massive project about one of the biggest bands in the history of Rock n roll. I have just gone through the complete book and I still cant believe I have seen all these amazing pictures and read about all these fun anecdotes and facts. This 253 page cram packed book features more than 600 never before published photos from Marcs personal collection. Also rare ticket stubs, memorabilia, ads, set lists etc. You will also get to know all the people that meant something and helped the band out during the first years. There are also pictures and short interviews with the strippers that gave the band a roof over their head during the beginning. These strippers turned into songs like My Michelle and Rocket Queen. This book includes pictures of Tidus Sloan, Rose, Hollywood Rose, L.A Guns and also private pictures taken by girlfriend/stripper Adriana Durgan. You will also find interviews with Slash, former bassplayer Duff McKagen, former drummer Steve Adler as well as their old managers and roadies. There are also pictures from almost every (or maybe all) gig Guns n roses ever did up to 1988. Many of these shows also have set lists and Mark has also printed some notes of what Axl have said on stage. This is a massive and impressive book and a must have for any fan of the band. I cant do anything else but agree with what Steve Adler says, No one could do this better than Marc. Nobody.
