Description

In support of the two simultaneously-released albums of the same name, Guns N Roses Use Your Illusion Tour was one of the most extensive and controversial live jaunts in rock history. From 20th January 1991 to 17th July 1993, the group played 194 shows in 27 countries before a total of over seven million fans. Much of the tour was recorded on film, later appearing in the music videos for singles Dead Horse and Live and Let Die . However, it is the infamy surrounding the tour for which it is best remembered, due in no small part to a series of riots, late starts, and the erratic behaviour of frontman Axl Rose. One of the most memorable occasions occurred at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile on 2nd December 1992. On that night Guns N Roses played in front of an audience of 85,535, an attendance record for the stadium. Following a ruckus between Axl and reporters upon arrival in the country, he showed up two hours late to the show, already inebriated, and much to the chagrin of certain fans. During the group s performance of Civil War , the band were forced to withdraw when audience members threw bottles at the stage. However, the crowd were finally pacified, and the band returned to the stage to complete a staggering two hour set, which is presented here on this album. Broadcast over FM radio in exceptional quality, the entire historical event is included, with superb renditions of classic anthems such as Sweet Child O Mine , Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle featured, alongside every controversial moment that epitomised the tour and the concert ended with 50 people arrested outside the stadium, and a teenage fan with several injuries, dying two days later. The line-up of Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagen, Dizzy Reed, Gilby Clarke and Matt Sorum are all on fine form, this recording provides a welcome reminder of the power of GnR at this most pivotal time in the group s history.
