Swedish atomic punk trio Haerdsmaelta just released their Gone In Grey EP which is the third EP in their debut trilogy. The band features members from well-known Swedish metal/punk/hard rock bands such as F.K.Ü., Snuffed by the Yakuza, and Lou Siffer and the Howling Demons. The six-track EP opens with some Crass style radio dial playing around before a whistle, plaintive guitar and ominous “Da da cha” whispers lead to a horror-punk, croaky voice laid on top of a melodic guitar and slow beat as Reek Of Schizophrenia builds and builds to an intriguing package with dark undertones. On Fence Builders the band rock things up with a heavier, pounding guitar lick, booming drums and fast paced bat supporting a rollicking vocal and big chorus whereas Acid Rainbow opens with some ambient keyboards before the drums kick in hard and the guitars scream under an urgent vocal all combining to produce a “Dead Kennedys meets The Cramps” atmosphere! Haerdsmaelta drive hard on the dirty riffs of In My Way where the vocals are more intense and urgent and the pace unrelenting and then the four minutes and forty seconds of The Night Is Still Young stutters along with a pulsating beat, signature riff and tempo changes supporting a metal/rock vocal replete with a restrained middle section and rousing conclusion. The EP closes with Holiday In The Philippines where the Dead Kennedys sounding song title is met with Dead Kennedys style guitars and East Bay Ray would be proud of this package with great licks, unrelenting drums and some 200mph punk rock pleasure.
