Not as famous as the Bergen based Helheim this Industrial act from Sarpsborg only lasted a few years but released a minor industrial black metal masterpiece during these years. The 4-track mini album Fenris is an impressive piece of work. It might be short with only 25 minutes playing time but its an aural assault that never lets up. The band often called themselves The Helheim Society in order to avoid confusion with the other bands with the same name. However The Helheim Society name never appeared on the front covers of their releases. This band is fusing black metal and industrial in ways that make Red Harvest seem tame by comparison. Vocalist Jon A Bjerk, who sadly passed away in 2004, has an inspiring voice more reminiscent of Aldrahn’s barking on Dødheimsgard’s classic Kronet Til Konge than a typical black rasp. Listen to those screams, they absolutely seethe anger. This 2023 reissue comes with bonus tracks in form of the two demos the band did. So this is the complete discography of the band which makes it a must have if youre interested in industrial black metal.
