High Live was recorded during one night in Italy and two nights in Spain back in 1996. The actual live album is quite an enjoyable experience but this dvd is somewhat disappointing. Theres a 2-3 seconds of pause inbetween the tracks that breaks the whole live experience. The actual performance is really good as the band is a pure example of stage efficiency, a good live performance and fusion with the crowd’s vibe. Helloween delivers an hour and twenty five minutes of killer energy and intensity. The show is from the Time Of The Oath tour so with the exceptions of three Keeper Of The Seven Keys classics and The Chance, every track is from Time Of The Oath or Master Of The Rings albums. Deris does a fine performance and Michael Weikath and Roland Grapow deliver some great guitar duels. Another let down is that the dvd is short on extras. All we have is an audio review by rock journalist Malcolm Dome, who gives a shortened history of the band (it mostly focuses on the post-Hansen days.) Die-hard fans probably won’t learn anything from it, but those who don’t know the band much may learn a thing or two. The only criticism I have about this one is that it sometimes sound like a sales pitch – hey, if I’m watching the dvd, that’s because I’ve already purchased it. Overall, not a bad dvd, but not a must-have either. I got it because I wanted to see Helloween live, and that’s what I got, not much more. Get it if you already have all the better dvds out there.
