The debut album from New York US metal act Hittman was released everywhere except in the Usa. America was in the late 80s swarmed by bands that were into thrash metal. Hittman’s eponymous opus did boast a handful of solid heavy rockers in a manner halfway between pre-Mindcrime Queensryche and, say, Fifth Angel. Fine Us power metal. The album received good reviews in Europe but was a commercial failure and when the band returned five years later in 1993 with Vivas Machina the band had to try something different. Released in the high point of the grunge metal wave it never got a chance. The album starts with the semi-progressive passages of Fates Warning and Queensryche of the initial Radio Waves to the final and poignant Mercy to move on to real hard rock shootings in If You Can’t Dance To It and in Walk That Walk and in truly successful ballads that would make the best Bon Jovi drool as in Say A Prayer. This album is a true tribute to heavy metal and hard rock with superfine melodies but it was an even bigger commercial failure and the band fell apart. 25 years later the band were reunited to perform the Keep It True and Up the Hammers festivals and now they had some major success among their European fans and the band put together a third album, Destroy All Humans, in 2020.
