Double album with gatefold cover

Although he sings lead on nearly every track, “Hollywood Vampires” isn’t an Alice Cooper album per se. Alice Cooper said this debut album from supergroup Hollywood Vampires is a tribute to his “dead drunk friends.” In 1969 the Hollywood Vampires were born in the upstairs bar at the Rainbow Bar & Grill. “To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members,” says Alice Cooper, a founding member of the Vampires. “I would walk in on a typical night,” Alice says, “and John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon, Bernie Taupin, Jim Morrison and Mickey Dolenz would be there.” In 2002, Alice and good friend Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of the Hollywood Vampires should live again. Alice and Johnny were joined by Joe Perry, producer Bob Ezrin and an amazing group of guests including Perry Farrell, Dave Grohl, Sir Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Slash, Robbie Krieger, Zak Starkey, Brian Johnson, Kip Winger, Sir Christopher Lee and Dennis Dunaway. As Bernie Taupin says in the liner notes: “…they were obviously men of varied talents and a collective oneness that came together under the umbrella of safety in numbers along with a fondness for channelling the ghosts of hedonists past.” The songs include a mix of originals and hard rocking covers of some of the finest music from the best bands and songwriters of the 1960’s and 1970’s. They are an homage to the friends and members of bands who passed much too soon, including The Doors, Badfinger, T. Rex, Led Zeppelin, and more. And the opening monologue from Christopher Lee is, as you might expect, among some of the finest spoke word performances. There is so much to like on this album. There is an amazing version of Led Zeppelin’s Whole Lotta Love with Alice Cooper and Ac/dcs Brian Johnsson sharing vocal duets. Produced by the amazing Bob Ezrin and funded by fans, this is an energetic, hard-rocking, fun loving tour-de-force! This release is not to be overlooked. It embodies the spirit of rock-n-roll by the masters who survived it.
