Description

Dutch pressing with printed innersleeve

The All Of The Good Ones Are Taken album is in a similar vein that it’s predecessor was made in, this is an album by a great writer and artist that got trapped in a myriad of dated production values that ultimately dragged the work as a whole down. Playing it now and it feels dated, stiff and with drum machines. Its a shame actually because these are all surface issues that could have been easily corrected. Is this a bad album? Still, no. Hunter’s sheer talent and ability breaks through any shortcomings the production may have played and still gives us something worth listening to. The title track (the fast one) is a classic. Even to this day almost some ten years later I still marvel at the craftsmanship shown on this piece. It’s one of those tunes that has hook after hook and a killer melody right over top of it and it doesn’t even need a guitar solo. Mick Ronson makes a sole appearance on “Death ‘N Glory Boys” but the electronic backing tracks weigh down what would otherwise be a very strong, evocative song about the futility of war. Misgivings aside, this is still an incredible artist who deserves much more attention and while this isn’t a good place to start, it is a good place to visit once you’ve been around to see what else is on the block.
