Greetings my friends, as I sit here on a train, looking out at the beautiful snow covered mountains, travelling from Zurich, Switzerland, to Karlsruhe, Germany, to begin rehearsals for the final leg of the Dystopia World Tour, I am astonished to think about what the band has accomplished in the past fourteen months. Since Dystopia was released in October of 2011, we have been on the attack in a big way, having played more shows in the past year than in the previous ten years combined! I feel this is a testament to a new beginning, a new energy, and a rock solid determination that will see us taking the music of Iced Earth to every corner of the globe; spreading the awareness of our brand of metal in a way that hasnt been done before. Ive never been more proud of this band, our crew, and the people behind the scenes that are responsible for much of our success. I realized early in the world tour that I wanted to capture this newfound energy and passion on film. The biggest question was deciding where to film. We had so many great shows and audiences around the world that we really had a hard time deciding which city would be chosen for this special event. However, when the offer was made to film at the ancient Kourion Theater in Limassol, Cyprus, we were immediately attracted to that idea. The history and culture there, as well as the Cypriot audience, were beyond magnetic, and thus the decision was made. The site of the theater, having a 6000-year history (used for theater and gladiatorial events in the time of the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Empires), presented many challenges for all of the crews involved. Since no electrical power was available at the venue, we were required to bring in massive generators to make our production a reality. The intense heat of the Cypriot sun made more than a few crewmembers nervous about equipment failures. The 40-degree Celsius/ 104-degree Fahrenheit temperatures took its toll on the crew during the day, but in normal fashion they soldiered on, tackling the various production challenges and intense heat. Also, this was the first official filming of an Iced Earth headline show, and we learned a lot about the entire process along the way. Im sure that as future world tours get filmed, we will face different challenges, but its the challenges, as well as you, THE FANS, that make what we do so gratifying and worthwhile. We want to thank all of our amazing fans from around the world: no matter the country you are from, the language you speak, or the god you worship, you have proven that you are our brothers and sisters in Heavy Metal, and for that we are eternally grateful. You have made this one of the most exciting and rewarding times in the long and rich history of Iced Earth. Thank you all! We hope you enjoy the show as much as we have enjoyed bringing it you! Yours in Metal! – Jon Schaffer
