Impaled’s Death After Life is exactly what should define the pinnacle of goregrind music. Between its punchy dreams, nasty licks and solos, and well thought out storytelling, this album is one that certainly deserves a light to be shined upon it for the rest of time. One thing that this record does best is knowing when to use the absence of sound to get the best effect to its users. Every instrument is used to perfection, and none go without getting its due glory. I especially like the raw tone of the drums and I really think it adds to the almost unclean feeling of the album, each part of the kit is used just enough and exactly at the right time. The lyrical concept of this album is very good: what happens when four medical school drop-outs try to find a cure for death. The album goes through until the medical students realize their failure, or did they? Listen to the album or read the lyrics to find out. Ultimately, this is a definitive platter of guts and gore that ranks among the best death gore metal records. You had best hope that Impaled are not the doctors that are in when it’s your turn to go under the blade. If you like Impaled… If you like Death Metal at all, you MUST get this album right away!
