Description

A box set featuring 7 cds and a 16 page booklet. Limited 300 numbered copies

The Killers tour saw Maiden evolve from a successful club act and opening act into a blistering headlining act. One of the most important line-up changes had taken place with the arrival of ex-Urchin guitarist and long-time friend of the band, Adrian Smith. Adrian wasn’t just a second guitarist, but a talented player and songwriter who would help define the sound of Iron Maiden time and time again. The band toured the world, opening for different bands for the most part but they also embarked on their first headlining tour of Japan. During this tour Iron Maiden recorded some tracks in Nagoya on May 23 and officially released the ‘Maiden Japan Live E.P.’ in order to give record-buyers a sample of their live sound at this point (the E.P. only contained 4 or 5 songs, depending on where you bought it). This amazing 7 cd box set however features almost the completeHeavy Metal Army Japan Live 1981 tour (only some songs from the 24th of May seems to be lost forever). Maiden were high on adrenaline on their first Japan tour and Di’Anno is in top form here, showing off his voice quite nicely, with Adrian, Dave, and Steve tearing up their fret-boards while Clive rips apart his kit. So a really cool box to have as its an important part of the Iron Maiden history as Paul Dianno would be sacked shortly afterwards.
