Rock am Ring was originally planned as a one-time festival celebrating the inauguration of a newer, shorter version of the track in 1985, but due to its commercial success (with 75,000 audience members), it was decided to make the concert an annual event. However, after a dip in attendance for the 1988 event, the festival was put on hiatus for two years. In 1991, the festival returned with a new concept: as well as featuring well-known artists, event organizers present lesser known up-and-coming bands to the public. The 2005 festival took place between the 3rd and 5th of June and bands that played were for example R.E.M, HIM, Green Day, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, The Hives, Velvet Revolver, Slipknot, Motley Crue, Within Temptation and Iron Maiden, who headlined on the 4th of June. 70 000 people showed up to see Iron Maiden perform a blistering set. The 2005 tour was a short 45 shows tour that took place between the 28nd of May and 2nd of September 2005. The tour was called ‘Eddie Rips Up The World Tour 2005’ and was a tour set up following the release of the ‘Early Days’ dvd. During the summer festivals the band made a set list that consisted entirely of songs from their first four albums which makes this show an 90 minutes orgasm for any old fan of the band.
