Description
Formed in 2003 by Solstice/Pagan Altar guitar player Richard M. Walker, Isen Torr has been dubbed Anglo Saxon Battle Metal. Enlisting the aid of ex-Destiny’s End guitarist Perry M. Grayson, Twisted Tower Dire vocalist Tony Taylor, ex-Ritual Steel bassist Oliver Zuhlke and current Ritual Steel drummer Martin Zellmer. Their debut EP Mighty And Superior was released to critical acclaim in early 2004 and it features some real retro epic metal here. The first thing that instantly came to mind when listening to this was Omen, Liege Lord, Tyrant, and several others. This band by far has more of an epic taste than the handful of other bands these members have played in, Twisted Tower Dire, Destiny’s End, and so forth. It really can’t be expressed just how killer these two songs are. Both are a whopping 8 minutes long too, and don’t really drag out at all. From the beginning to the end they’re just incredible. Tony Taylor’s vocals are actually slightly different than his melodic singing done in Twisted Tower Dire. Instead, here he seems to show off more of his powerful range, and comes off as a little more aggressive than his usual attitude gives off. There is nothing holding the epic feel back here at all and you won’t see overtures, keyboards, sound effects, orchestrations, or whatever in sight here at all. If you find this then grab it you’ll be getting into a gold mine of flawless heavy metal. Isen Torr is glorious and It makes me wonder if everything Richard M. Walker does turns to gold.
