Description
Swedens Jigsore Terror from Vaxjo, featuring Hampus Klang (Hypnosia, Bullet), Adde Mitroulis (Birdflesh, Entrails, General Surgery) and Tobbe Ander (Leukemia, Entrails) was formed back in 2001 with the intention to create old-school death/grind in the veins of the early, brutal bands like Repulsion, Death, Carcass and Terrorizer. Indeed, the Swedish trio’s first album, World End Carnage, forgoes any of the genre’s technical developments post, say, 1989, to concentrate on spin-cycling the listener with 15 shards of brutal, unadorned old-school death metal bordering on grindcore. Actually, the latter has more to do with said songs brief duration (typically clocking in at the two-minute mark) and gory titles (e.g. Gorging on Exposed Arteries, Rotten Heads, Scattered Cranial Remains etc.) than intensity of assault, or all-around punk quotient — both crucial to grindcore’s makeup, and only hinted at here. With 35-minute barrage of riffs stacked end to end with little changes between the songs it serves its purpose in meting out both punishment and aggressive release, but, once it’s all said and done, no memory remains — other than that crook in your neck or aching brain, perhaps. All the vocals are a mid range scream/growl which fits the band perfectly, and are really Grindcore vocals rather than Death metal type vocals which make them even better. Mastermind Dan Swano does some guest vocals on Slaughtered Existence and the production is great, as would be expected when the band was recorded by Nasums Mieszco Talarczyk (R.I.P.). So overall a bloody great grind/death stew but if youre looking for deeper extreme metal revelations then you need to look elsewhere.
