Johnny Cash was one of the most influential figures in American music in the post war period. He managed to combine elements of folk, rock n roll and country, which together with his distinctive voice and guitar style, created an instantly recognisable sound. The Long Black Veil dvd is a compilation of no less than 21 Johnny Cash songs taken from different TV appearances mostly from 1970-1995. The tracks that have been picked here is amazing. Includes some rare and rarely seen material. We have several tracks from the Danish TV broadcast DR TV recorded on the 14th of September 1971 which showcases stunning live solo and joint performances from Cash and June Carter Cash. We also have the track Daddy Sang Bass from the Music City Tonight show where Cash is reunited with The Statler Brothers. What more? Well we have the track Jackson with June Carter Cash and Johnny Cash from the Montreux festival 5th of July 1994. This was Cashs only appearance at the legendary Montreux Festival and of course alot more. This was an hour of my life that went very fast. Just check the track listing and you wont find a single filler tracks. Just hits all the way. The extras are made up of a biography text that were almost hard to read as they are rolling another TV appearance in the background. However i kept watching as the appearance in the background is the track The Man In Black and its taken from the Johnny Cash On Campus show from the 17th of February 1971. This was the first time ever Cash performed the track live. This was to become his signature song and everybody in the audience gives him a standing ovation after the song is finished. It’s like hearing a recording of Led Zepplin play “Stairway To Heaven ” to an audience before the album IV was released. It will makes you shiver to the bones. So recorded at so many cool TV appearances from different times of his career and never a weak moment in his voice. This dvd is truly something for fans of Johnny Cash
