Description

Polish pressed music cassette. Clear Elbo cassette with white text.

Poland is probably the country that had the most record labels in the world that only released cassettes. But even though there were lots of labels the market was still small as they only printed these for their own market inside of Poland. And a label in one town maybe lacked the distribution for another town and so on. A Warzaw or Krakow label might print more copies of a tape then labels from a smaller town. So even if there are thousands of releases you will notice how rare some are if you start to try to list the catalog number of one particular label. Some cassettes just rarely shows up. One interesting label were Elbo that was formed by Elzbieta Borysiuk in the beginning of the 90s. She managed to release almost 1000 releases during her active years. Most of their releases came with cassettes that printed the artists name on it.

Frontiers managed to give Journey four Top 40 hits, with After the Fall and Send Her My Love both reaching number 23, Faithfully at number 12, and Separate Ways peaking at number eight — the same amount that 1981’s Escape brandished. While they tried to use the same musical recipe as Escape, Frontiers comes up a little short, mainly because the keyboards seem to overtake both Schons guitar playing and Steve Perrys strong singing. An overabundance of Jonathan Cains synth work cloaks the quicker tunes and seeps into the ballads, slightly widening the strong partnership of Perry and Schon. Faithfully tried to match the powerful beauty of Open Arms, and while it’s a gorgeous ballad, it just comes inches away from conjuring up the same soft magic. Separate Ways grabs attention right off the bat with stinging synthesizer and a catchy guitar riff, and Send Her My Love emphasizes Perrys keen ability to pour his heart out. The rest of the songs on the album lack the warmth that Journey is famous for, especially in their mix of fervour and intimacy shown on this album’s predecessor.
