Joy Unlimited started out as a pop band called Joy And The Hit Kids. But the bands music started to move into new realms by the late 60s. So they adopted the new name of Joy Unlimited. The debut album under the new name was released in 1970 and it caused a confusion among fans. The album was called just Joy Unlimited in Usa, Overground in Germany and Turbulence in the UK (and all of them where released with different cover artwork). The band would later go in a more progressive direction but their debut was not all that progressive in nature, and not at all like the avant art rock of the 1970s Krautrock movement. Instead, it was a competent amalgam of trends in American and British mainstream rock with some soul inflected beat and psychedelic pop all done with some tasty orchestration. This single was released in 1969 and features the catchy Daytime-Nightime on the A-side and the organ-guitar prog rock-tinged Mr. Psevdonym on the B-side. The band was fronted by the powerful female vocalist Joy Fleming.
