Black Sabbath invented heavy metal, but Judas Priest drove it forward, rapidly accelerating the genre’s development. Up to 1980 the band had released a run of classic albums and the band got a real taste of success with 1980’s British Steel, an album on which they took their metal roots in a more commercial direction and watched tracks like Living After Midnight and Breaking The Law crack radio playlists all over the world. Looking to repeat that success, they went even further into commercial territory with the 1981 album Point Of Entry. The albums only hit was Heading Out To The Highway, and it was clearly written in the vein of Breaking The Law and Living After Midnight with the same style of chorus, bridge, and twin guitars. It is an average Priest song but was a top 10 hit in the U.S. After that, the Priest fan is going to have to look hard to find any other classic track on there. Sure there are decent tracks but Point Of Entry will always be one of those other Judas Priest albums. It wasn’t a ground breaker and wasn’t a massive seller. It will always just be the album that came after British Steel or the one that came before Screaming For Vengeance. It did fine (500,000 US sales) but it didn’t make history like the other two records. But it in no way hurt the bands name and the tour for the album, named Worldwide Blitz, was still a massive success for the band. The tour started in February of 1981 and ran all the way to December of that year. Supporting acts were Savoy Brown, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Joe Perry, Def Leppard and Accept. This album captures the band live at the classic Hammersmith Odeon on the 21st of November 1981. Being on home soil and at one of Britannia’s most classic concerts halls its no wonder the band is on top form on this recording. Comes with two bonus tracks recorded in Chicago a few months earlier
