Jocke Berg’s songwriting has only gotten more political over the years. In “La Belle Epoque”, the main track at Kent last album “Tigerdrottningen”, he described a Sweden that felt dark and cold at also at times ominous. On the exclusive 2016 single track “Egoist” he sings about book and cross burning and about how accepted hatred have become if its just faced the right way. But its not just pitch-black, there is also an element of self-examination and a prescription for countermeasures. So even if “Egoist” has overall dark feeling its also some sort of fighting song about love, empathy and decency. Musically “Egoist” sounds like disco rock in a familiar Kent way, somewhere halfway between the more restrained side of the context proven influences like New Order and U2.
