Description

Double album on black vinyls. Limited 100 copies

In the spring of 1986, former Mercyful Fate vocalist King Diamond released his first solo album, “Fatal Portrait”, and he did his first North American tour in the summer of that year (Fatal Portrait would go on and sell over 100 000 copies in North America alone). The King Diamond line-up at the time were vocalist King Diamond, guitarists Andy LaRocque and Michael Denner, bassist Timi Hansen and drummer Mikkey Dee. 4 dates were performed in Canada and this double album was recorded during the third show (taking place at the Spectrum in Montreal on the 24th of July). Its a typical 80s recording with a bit muddy sound but the band performs the complete Fatal Portrait (besides the instrumental Voices From The Past) as well as such Mercyful Fate classics as “Evil”, “The Oath”, “Come To The Sabbath” and “Gypsy” together with the single track “No Presents For Christmas”. Opening the set with the classic first track of his 1986 album Fatal Portrait, “The Candle,” King Diamond stalked the stage with his signature falsetto voice and pointed at the crowd with his femur/tibia-boned mic handle. King tells the crowd that his new band will continue exactly were Mercyful Fate left off before they goes into the first Mercyful Fate track of the evening. Come To The Sabbath. The show continues in the same strong way where King is backed up by Mikkey Dees hard hitting drum sound and the riffs from axemens Andy Larocque and Michael Denner. This album is a very interesting piece of King Diamonds early history and a great chance to hear all the Fatal Portrait material live. There are also 6 bonus tracks at the end of the album from Brooklyn during the American Abigail 87 tour.
