Soon to be super-group Bon Jovi received the opening band slot for their first major touring activities outside of the U.S. It’s somewhat amusing to note that Bon Jovi included a guitarist who had auditioned for Kiss in 1982. As had been the case with the Lick It Up tour, Kiss had problems with the smaller market venues that they were playing again. Even though Animalize was a successful album for the band, that success didn’t always translate into stable well-sold tour dates. As had been the case on the two previous tours a hefty amount of new material was included in the set. For the first show the band opened the set with I’ve Had Enough (Into The Fire) and then the setlist included Burn Bitch Burn, Get All You Can Take, Heaven’s On Fire and Under the Gun. Both Burn Bitch Burn and Get All You Can Take were dropped following their first performances leaving the group to work on the set. I’ve Had Enough was also banished from the opening slot following that show with Detroit Rock City returning to its rightful place and an Eric Carr sung Black Diamond replacing the aforementioned trimmings. When the band played Stafford, 10 shows into the tour, the band had found a set list that would be quite static for most of the European run. Ive Had Enough (Into The Fire) lasted for nearly all of the European tour before being dropped from that final show. New guitarist Mark St John had been hospitalized just before the tour started and the bands friend Bob Kulick had recommended his brother Bruce to help out on the European tour but by time the European Tour ended on November 5 at Le Zenith in Paris, it was clear that Mark’s position within the band was tenuous, with Bruce Kulick fitting in well with the band and delivering solid performances night after night. The European leg had used an old stripped down stage decorated in animalized stripes. The band also jammed a brief part on this tour on tracks such as Whole Lotta Love, Hey Joe or Oh Susannah.
