The US leg of the Asylum tour, was the biggest tour KISS had done in years, and so was the show. The main bulk of the stage set, was basically the Animalize stage, with the ramps seen on each side of Eric’s drum kit, which again were on a movable riser. Something entirely new was the enormous KISS logo behind the band. The logo used since 1976 had been retired and this new one had multicolored lights installed into them. A company called Vari-Lights had produced these stage lights which could change color, and these were used to build the new KISS logo. There were also a generous amount of amplifiers. This album captures the band at the Inglewood Forum in California on the 11th of February 1986. Forum felt much like a second home for the band, who decided to tape material for their classic Alive II album at this place. For this tour the band brought W.A.S.P. with them as an opening act. The night started with the lights being dimmed in the arena, and a loud humming sound would appear from the speakers. New for this tour was extended solos. Solos for Kiss wasnt a new thing. Since the 70s all band members had their own solos but this tour really felt dominated by long and rather boring solos. To make Gene’s solos more exiting he decided to use Ace old rocket shooting trick. Mr Simmons would shoot rockets into the lightning rig, where they would appear to explode. Eric’s drum kit was bigger than ever and he also had some electronic drum pads on his kit now that were used during his drum solo. Another new effect appeared at the end of Love Gun. For the final machine gun drum roll in the song, Paul would point his guitar like a gun towards the lighting rig. Large fireworks would go off to the rhythm of the drum roll. The set would end with Rock And Roll All Nite as usual, and also as usual the stage would be covered with a confetti storm and Paul would smash his guitar into pieces during the last encore: Lick It Up.
