Before Kiss finished their sixt studio album, Love Gun, a Gallup poll indicated that Kiss was the most popular band in the United States, beating Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles. That meant that the pre-orders for the album reached 1,000,000 copies, which meant that Love Gun was certified platinum on the same day it was released, June 30, 1977. The album cover was once again painted by fantasy artist Ken Kelly, who previously contributed the cover for 1976’s Destroyer.
