In perhaps the entirety of rock and roll’s brief history, no band has better marketed itself than New York hard rock stalwarts Kiss. Over the course of their 46 years, the group has put their name on everything from condoms to caskets, continually cashing in despite an era where its become increasingly difficult to monetize recorded music. Though they’ve sold records too – 100 million of them (25 million albums), making them one of the best selling groups in the history of hard rock. But Kiss’s true legacy has been and will always be their seemingly ubiquitous presence on the road. Their breakthrough record was a live album and Alive! (1975) remains one of the most influential live sets ever. Since staging their first farewell tour in 2000, the last to feature the group’s original line-up, each subsequent road trip has elicited a wink, nod and occasional chuckle from fans. So it’s with moderate disbelief and slight trepidation that Kiss fans approach the group’s End Of The Road tour, one which makes its way through the midwest, northeast and into Canada before heading abroad with dates through the rest of 2019. This 8 disc box set is massive. First out is the gig at Reenbahn Iffezheim in Germany on the 6th of July 2019. This was a special night in Kiss history as due to thunderstorms, this show was stopped 45 minute into the show, with Paul announcing that the band had been asked to stop. Some 30-minutes later the promoter announced that the 14 000 attendees should return to their vehicles. This marked the first time a Kiss show had been cancelled while in progress. A press release was issued the following morning, stating: Due to an immediate [threat of] and acute bad weather situation, the concert with Kiss had to be interrupted on July 6, 2019 at the racecourse Iffezheim… Because of the acute danger posed by the storm, the continuation of the concert was not possible, and it was finally officially canceled. The rest of the box set features the two shows the band did in Russia during this tour on both cd and dvd. The two shows were Saint-Petersburg och Moscow. Kiss in Russia is always special as the band never made it over there until 2008 and theese shows at are only the bands 4th and 5th ever in the country…and if Kiss is true to their announcement its also their lasts.
