This compilation features rare studio outtakes focusing on the demos made between the debut album and Destroyer. During breaks from touring the band usually had to work on new material to be able to keep up the speed with releasing two albums a year. In January of 1975 the band locked themselves into the Larrabee Studios in Los Angeles and in August of that year they made another session at the Magna Graphics Studio in New York. A few of the tracks from these sessions came to be released on Destroyer others on Rock And Roll Over and some on Gene Simmons solo album, the rest were scrapped. I believe the band played on a couple of tracks while Gene played on everything. One of the highlights from the Larrabee session is the track Misstake. It was a track that was written for the first album. The song is an outright country and western ballad in G featuring acoustic guitars bottleneck slides and an overall vibe much more consistent with Wicked Lester than even acoustic offerings like Hard Luck Woman. The fact that Paul sings lead on the verses may indicate that he penned the song though no byline is included on any of the paperwork. Gene clearly shares vocal duties on the verses and on a brief bridge that modulates from G up to B. There are sporadic embellishments throughout that might qualify as a solo though they are such standard licks that it’s impossible to determine who is playing them. As it stands it is the earliest demo for an unreleased Kiss song known to exist. From the Magna session theres so much worth taking notice of. Donca Hesitate, Im A Star, Love Is Alright, Night Fly, It Aint The Smoke That Burns You, Mad Dog and so. So many songs that remained unreleased and the ones on here that got released like God Of Thunder and Detroit Rock City are also available here in very cool versions. God Of Thunder features Paul Stanley on vocals while Detroit Rock City is featured here in an early version with different lyrics. A must have for Kiss fans
