German act Klage’s debut album Dystopias Wiege was originally released back in 2006 and even 15 years after its initial release this melancholic masterpiece not only remains immensely meaningful and has stood the test of time as a hardly rivaled spearhead on Germany’s depressive black metal territory. On a profound philosophical basis A. Nachtswehr here masterfully interweaves axioms that appear contradictive at first sight: repetitive and hallucinating soundscapes breathing lifeless beauty, harsh yet majestic, tormented yet epic, paralyzing yet inspirational – all this resulting in an experience so dark, desolate, raw and addictive. The band has a certain edge about the music. A deep and dark core can be found behind the music. Simplistic, uncompromising and very atmospheric. The material from their second album, Die Weihe Des Eises Eine Grossweise has certainly a lot more variation as it feels like the band is trying to keep the same spirit of their debut while trying to expand on their style. While their trying to expand and make it bigger in scale the end result still feels a bit one dimensional and the material dont really live up to the beauty of their debut. Getting all material on one cd however is such a welcomed idea. Fans of depressive German black metal need this one.
