Polish black metal act Kriegsmachine is a sideproject by Mgla vocalist M and Mgla drummer Darkside. Mgla might be among the more popular underground black metal acts but where Mgla succumbed to fuzzy, muddy production this act is cleaner and feels more riff oriented. However they are in no way overproduced as that would have hurt the bleakness in the atmosphere. The tracks are seven-to-eight-minutes so the tracks will grow on you with time. Apocalypticists is technical and its overwhelming, its vision of evil and unease is subtly and steadily. M. and Darkside have a clear, unwavering vision of what they want their musical projects to achieve. This isn’t fast food metal with salty hooks and sugary-fat riffs. Apocalypticists demands patience. This is a 50-minute journey into the beating heart of Polish black metal – forever cryptic, forever expressive, forever non compliant. It’s not instantly gratifying or rewarding but the more time spent with it the richer the rewards.
