I have always been fascinated by Kryst The Conqueror. In all honestly its not my top ten album in anyway, but just for the simple reason that the Misfits members Jerry Only and Doyle teamed up with Talisman and Yngwie J Malmsteen vocalist Jeff Scott Soto to record a dark fantasy heavy metal album is something that sounds so interesting that it cant be ignored. Then there were so many contractual problems that Soto had to come up with a fake name and the band were never able to perform live which makes it even more odd. So here we have the splendid vocalist Jeff Scott Soto calling himself Kryst The Conqueror and he’s backed up by Mo The Great (which is Jerry Only) on bass, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein on guitar and The Murp on drums and later Dr Chud (both Murp and Chud had been part of Misfits live line-up at one time or another). If you dont think this sounds like an ill-fated heavy metal supergroup then why not ad the fact that Dave The Snake Sabo of Skid Row joined them on one track to lay down a guitar solo. The band released a five-song cd and cassette ep in 1990 and recorded an entire album at the same time. But the album never saw the light of day until now. Soldiers Of Light is said to include all the recorded material this band ever did. The whole project came to an end a few years later when Only and Doyle thought it was better to re-form The Misfits.
